At Recovery Movement Consulting (RMC), we are proud to announce that our expert behavioral health grant writing team has helped Will Work for Recovery (WWFR) secure $1,015,000 from the Minnesota Department of Health to support justice-involved individuals living with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
This multi-year award spans from June 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029, and is a testament to the impact of strategic, peer-driven solutions in behavioral health.
The grant will fund WWFR’s Second Chance Initiative, a comprehensive peer-led program in Hennepin County designed to serve 225 individuals annually who are reentering the community from jails, prisons, or treatment centers.
A Second Chance for Justice-Involved Adults in Recovery
As expert SAMHSA grant writers and behavioral health grant writing professionals, our role was to ensure the proposal reflected the urgent need for culturally responsive, trauma-informed peer recovery support. The Second Chance Initiative focuses on four core domains of life—health, home, purpose, and community—while addressing structural barriers that hinder reentry and recovery.
Participants will receive:
1-on-1 peer recovery coaching
Group and all-recovery meetings
Linkages to healthcare, employment, and recovery resources
Financial assistance for housing and basic needs
Life skills, financial literacy, and resume development workshops
Sober social events that foster connection and belonging
Targeting Disparities with Equity-Driven Care
The program is grounded in equity. In Hennepin County, Black and Native American individuals are significantly overrepresented in the criminal legal system. WWFR’s project is designed to reach these populations with culturally competent care, ensuring those most affected by systemic racism and incarceration have access to meaningful recovery pathways.
