RMC’s Impact in 2024: A Personal Reflection from CEO & Founder, Shannon Egan

Dear Recovery Community Members,

2024 has been a year of profound growth and transformation for Recovery Movement

Consulting (RMC). As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded of why I started this work: to support recovery-focused organizations that help individuals like me, and families like mine, rebuild their lives in the face of substance use and co-occuring mental health disorders.

This year, RMC achieved a major milestone in its growth. In Q4, I hired my first part-time staff member—a pivotal moment both personally and professionally. This expansion marks an exciting step forward, enabling me to take on more clients, enhance efficiency, and better meet the increasing demand for peer-led expertise in grant writing, marketing, and capacity building. I’m hopeful this is just the beginning of many future team expansions!

Serving 15 incredible clients across five states—including Axiom Community of Recovery, Recovery Community Network, Bold North Recovery, Will Work for Recovery, NIRCO, CRCC, and others—has been nothing short of inspiring.

The Numbers That Matter

In 2024, RMC worked closely with our clients and helped raise over $2.1 million in grants. Some highlights include:

  • Hope Town Ohio (OhioMHAS, Portage County, Ohio): $258,000

  • Bold North Recovery (MN Department of Human Services, Minnesota): $241,193

  • NIRCO (IDHS/SUPR, Lake County, Illinois): $246,376

  • CRCC (Advocates for Human Potential (AHP), Inc., under the Public Awareness Campaigns on Substance Use and Supports (PACSS) sub-award, Chicago, Illinois): $750,000

  • The Perfectly Flawed Foundation (Advocates for Human Potential, LaSalle, Illinois): $350,000

  • Axiom Community of Recovery (ADHS Justice Reinvestment Grant, Phoenix, Arizona): $280,000

Total in Large Scale Grants Secured: $2,125,569

Beyond grants, I created over 300 pieces of marketing collateral—annual reports, flyers, infographics, and more, including high end graphics for the National Recovery Rally in Chicago. Each project aimed to amplify our clients’ missions and help them connect with their communities in authentic and impactful ways.

A Personal Turning Point

One of the most significant moments for me in 2024 was leaving my role as Development Director at the Humane Society of Utah, where I had worked for five years. While I deeply valued my time supporting the animals, I realized my heart belonged to the recovery community. The need for RMC’s services was clear, and stepping into this work full-time again has been one of the most rewarding decisions of my life.

Looking Ahead to 2025

In 2025, I’m excited to launch the Train Your Team Program to help nonprofits build capacity, secure funding, and grow sustainably. This training will focus on:

  • Grant writing strategies

  • Event and donor engagement planning

  • Marketing and website optimization

  • Data collection improvements

  • AI tools to streamline grant writing and marketing

The program is priced at affordable rate of $1,500 per month, with a recommended four-month commitment to thoroughly cover critical topics. This timeline allows team members to practice their skills with one-on-one support from experts, ensuring they fully understand how to apply the tools and insights from the training. I’m excited to see how this initiative empowers organizations to thrive in the year ahead.

Why This Matters

This work is deeply personal to me. As someone in recovery, I understand the challenges and triumphs that come with this journey. Supporting the organizations that make recovery possible for so many isn’t just my job—it’s my mission.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I’m grateful for the trust you’ve placed in RMC and for the opportunity to walk alongside you in this important work. Here’s to building more hope, resilience, and success in 2025.

Warmly,

Shannon Egan
