ABOUT SHANNON EGAN

Shannon Egan, a woman in long-term recovery and a breast cancer survivor, founded Recovery Movement Consulting (RMC) driven by a profound passion for helping others who, like her, have faced the challenges of addiction. Her journey to sobriety, which began in January 2011, has fueled her dedication to empowering addiction recovery organizations across the nation. Today, Shannon is a seasoned expert in grant writing and a compassionate advocate who has secured nearly $15 million in funding for nonprofits, helping to drive significant change and expand essential recovery support services.

Shannon’s professional journey is as diverse as it is impactful. Before founding RMC, she was a freelance journalist and press officer for the United Nations, reporting on critical humanitarian issues in Africa and New York City. From 2004 to 2006, she worked for IRIN News, a UN subsidiary based in Khartoum, Sudan, covering significant events such as the Darfur genocide and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Her reporting was both compelling and vital, shedding light on crises that demanded global attention.

In 2007, Shannon moved to New York City and began working with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), focusing on reproductive health and human rights. Her reports on crises in regions like the Pacific Islands, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Nepal were instrumental in raising awareness and support for women’s health and family well-being.

Today, she is a highly accomplished grant writer, recognized with multiple awards for securing millions of dollars for addiction recovery organizations throughout the United States. Since 2014, she has provided consulting services to recovery-focused nonprofits nationwide. In 2015, Shannon was appointed Utah State Captain for the UNITE to Face Addiction Rally, a historic national recovery rally held at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. That same year, she self-published her first book, No Tourists Allowed: Seeking Inner Peace & Sobriety in War-Torn Sudan.

A leading voice in the New Advocacy Recovery Movement, Shannon actively collaborates with RCO leaders to influence policy changes at local, state, and federal levels. Her efforts focus on reducing the stigma of addiction and dismantling barriers to long-term recovery. Beyond her consulting work, Shannon is a sought-after motivational speaker, delivering talks on topics like "Creativity in Recovery for Optimal Health and Well-Being" and "Multiple Pathways of Recovery" at conferences nationwide, where she often serves as an emcee.

Shannon lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her five beloved rescue pets, Lovey and Jagger, two toothless senior dogs rescued from the Humane Society of Utah, who are cherished household members. They are joined by her sweet-tempered cats, Gizmo and Tigger, who serve as Shannon’s steadfast, sober companions. Paisley, her wild and rebellious bunny boy, adds a touch of mischief to the mix. With his habit of nibbling on baseboards and backyard flowers, Paisley is adored for his spirited, adventurous nature.
